Mindful Voice
DUKE VOICE CARE CENTER'S
13TH ANNUAL WORLD VOICE DAY CELEBRATION & MINDFUL VOICE WORKSHOP WITH MARK MOLITERNO
SATURDAY, APRIL 6, 2019, 9 AM - 5:30 PM
RENAISSANCE RALEIGH HOTEL

World Voice Day is an international day of celebration of the human voice. Singers, actors, teachers and preachers need healthy voices to do their jobs, but we all need our voices to connect us to the world. Duke Voice Care Center has led North Carolina's observation of World Voice Day (WVD) since 2007. Each year at World Voice Day the vocal health experts of Duke Voice Care Center help people learn about how the voice works, how people can keep their voices healthy and strong, and what to do if they have a voice problem. The theme of WVD 2019 is Mindful Voice, which will provide multiple opportunities for people to learn about how mind-body wellness principles apply to vocal health and function.

Mark Moliterno, MM, E-RYT500, C-IAYT, YACEP, POLY® will be the tenth recipient of the Patrick D. Kenan Award for Vocal Health & Wellness. Mark is an accomplished professional opera singer, voice teacher, yoga teacher, IAYT-certified Yoga Therapist, workshop leader, and author and is known as a specialist in helping people understand and uncover their authentic voices.  His extensive performing career has taken him to many countries in a variety of leading operatic roles and as a concert soloist and recitalist. Mark is the founder of YOGAVOICE®, a unique pedagogical program which combines several traditions of Yoga philosophy and practice with bel canto voice techniques to develop authenticity and wellness in the art of singing and personal communication. He presents YOGAVOICE® workshops at professional conferences and gatherings internationally. Mark has published articles in YogaLiving Magazine, The Journal of Singing, is co-author of The Musicians Breath, and is the author and featured instructor of The Musicians Breath Yoga DVD. His work, especially related to overcoming performance anxiety, was featured in an article in the May 2014 Yoga Journal magazine, entitled, How to be Fearless. Mark Moliterno is a Priority Adjunct Associate Professor of Voice at Westminster Choir College and maintains active voice and yoga therapy studios in New York City, Princeton, NJ, and eastern PA.

In addition to a YOGAVOICE® workshop with Mark Moliterno, DVCC's 2019 World Voice Day Celebration will feature learning sessions on vocal health and mindfulness, prizes, and a vocal health fair.

MORE ABOUT DUKE VOICE CARE CENTER & THE PATRICK D. KENAN AWARD

Designated as a Duke Center for Excellence in 2006, Duke Voice Care Center is a specialty practice in the Division of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences at Duke Health. The Duke Voice Care team includes laryngologists (ENT doctors with special training in caring for voices), speech-language pathologists and clinical singing voice rehabilitation specialists (speech-language pathologists who are also performers and voice teachers) who work collaboratively to evaluate and treat voice problems.

In 2010, Duke Voice Care Center announced the establishment of the Patrick D. Kenan Award for Vocal Health and Wellness, to be presented annually to individuals whose lives and careers increase awareness of the importance of the human voice. The award pays tribute to the legacy of a dynamic and ambitious Duke physician and performer, Patrick D. Kenan. Duke Voice Care Center was formed in large part as a result of Dr. Kenan's vision for vocal health.

Previous award honorees have been American Idol winner and country music sensation Scotty McCreery, Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon, international opera star bass-baritone Simon Estes, Broadway performer Lauren Kennedy, Soul Ingredients® founder Dr. Trineice Robinson-Martin, National Public Radio broadcaster Carl Kasell, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Tift Merritt, the Triangle-based band Delta Rae and Durham's all-male chorus 100 Men In Black.
