How to Make an Herbal Tincture: Virtual Make-Along
An herbal tincture is a potent alcohol extract of a medicinal herbs that is a convenient way to use herbal medicine. You can make them easily in your own home and save lots of money. Join us for this live, virtual class that will be hosted on Zoom, so you can ask your questions, show me your work, and still practice social distancing.
In this two-hour virtual "make-along" class, we will cover:
- Making tinctures together (you'll be in your kitchen making your own!) - What is an tincture and when would you use it - using ratios to make tinctures in the standardized way - the folk method - possible equipment - what herbs to use - helpful and tasty combinations
DATE: April 4, 2020, 1pm-3pm LOCATION: Zoom link will be sent prior to class. TEACHER: Natalie COST: $30.00
MATERIALS NEEDED TO DO "MAKE-ALONG" Tincture: Please gather these supplies and have them ready for class. I have chosen herbs that should be readily available at the grocery store or in your garden.
Tincture: - 15 oz vodka (40% or 80 proof), any level of quality is fine. (16oz= almost 2 cups) - 3 oz of a dried medicinal herb (I recommend thyme, echinacea or elderberry) - 32 oz jar (that's the large, quart sized mason jar)
EQUIPMENT: - A kitchen scale - a measuring cup with ounces - An herb and spice grinder or a blender would be helpful, but not necessary.
ABOUT VIRTUAL CLASSES WITH ADIANTUM SCHOOL:
Due to social distancing measures and potential shelter in place orders, I have decided to offer some virtual classes to keep us all from going crazy. Im sure this is a new platform for some of you, so heres all the info you need to join in!
Downloading Zoom and making an account: We will be using Zoom for this class. You will need to download the software on your computer or phone. You can do this before the class by visiting this link: https://zoom.us/ . Creating an account is free!
How to join the zoom call: I will send you a link to the scheduled conference call to the email you provide at registration. When its time for class, you will follow that link (having already created your zoom account) and join the call. You may join with just audio, or just video. The call will start 10 minutes prior to the start of class so we can get settled in and technical difficulties worked out. I recommend using something with audio and video capabilities (phones or laptop computers work well).
How does a make-along work? The great thing about joining virtually is that you can make the herbal preparation in your own kitchen while Im making it, thus the name make-along. Its like a sing along! I highly encourage you to do this, as it will give you the experience of making the product in your own kitchen, and you can ask questions and even show me your work (yes, Ill be able to see you!). Please see the list of materials needed and gather them before class starts.
I am so grateful for your support in this strange time! Please let me know if there are any other courses you'd like to see in this format.
