Awakenings & Beginnings International Dance Festival - Master Classes

As part of an integral portion of the festival we have educational classes taught by some of Los Angeles's Master Teachers and Instructors in their given discipline. These classes give you a sampling and an introduction to the style and format each teacher brings to the dance scene.
These classes are open to the public and also our festival participants. Festival participants get a discounted price, the public must pay full price. There is Limited Space, so please buy your spots on line NOW before we sell out. Please note: Should you desire to take the chance and buy your classes at the door on the day of, we CANNOT guarantee you a spot. Please take care in choosing your class in the drop down menu. There are several classes, dates, times and instructors to choose from. Some are one hour, some are 2 hour workshops. Please note: Evolution Dance Studios has a policy for all classes to clear 5 minutes before the end of the hour. This is to ensure a smooth and respectful transition between classes and instructors. SATURDAY SCHEDULE 1/6/2018
1:00pm-2:00pm Susan Vishmid/Freaks With Lines Ballet Technique
This class will emphasize proper alignment and placement in ballet technique. Half the class will be at the barre and half in the center where we will explore some basic ballet combinations.
2:00pm-3:00pm Santiago Rivera Contemporary Jazz
We will explore simplicity in movement and how it can still be beautiful.
SUNDAY SCHEDULE 1/7/2018
12:00pm-1:00pm Katie McKulla/Ovation09and_Artists Pilates & Stretch
Dancers give yourself some TLC with Katie's Prop class. We will do some amazing somatics and pilates based stretch and strengthening exercises with therabands, therapy balls, and foam rollers. There will be a contemporary ballet technique somatic theraband barre and we will end with contact improvisation. Come play!
*bring your own props or I can provide for you.
1:00pm-2:00pm Ironstone/SUBDance Contemporary Dance
Beginning with an improvisatory exploration, well warm up our brains and our bodies with a series of challenges. We will end the class with a fun and physical phrase. Lets move!
2:00pm-4:00pm Julie Simon/Tropicaleiza Contemporary Brazilian
Taught as a master class, group class or company class, Contemporary Brazilian challenges dancers to push beyond traditional techniques. This class is a joyous celebration that incorporates grounded and uninhibited Afro-Brazilian influenced expression, the posture and playfulness of Samba, together with fluid and voluminous contemporary movement. You'll thank you and your body will thank you ...once you catch your breath. This is a special 2 hour workshop. www.juliesimondance.com
4:00pm-5:00pm Jessica Harper/Jess Harper & Dancers Contemporary Modern
Jess Harper offers an uplifting, high-energy contemporary modern class, with floor phrases, idiosyncratic modern movements, across-the-floor combos, and yoga moves. Come play and sweat!
