Goal of Training
Recovery and treatment can happen for the whole family. Addiction to psychoactive substances destroys individuals, families, communities, societies and cultures. This presentation will guide participants to understand addiction through a systemic lens and how systemic framework relates to the bio-psycho-social model of addiction. Portions of the training will include client, family and community psycho-education as well as reasons to involve families in the treatment process. Participants will build a foundation to increase competencies working with individuals and families to address the cycle of addiction, specifically substance use.
This workshop will combine family systems theory and theoretical family therapy models to conceptualize addiction in a broader context. Facilitators will share their knowledge and experience working with families struggling with addiction in residential and outpatient treatment. Using theoretical models and interventions, facilitators will demonstrate how to use a systemic lens in addiction counseling, specifically examining the parallel process of addiction. Participants will be able to dialogue about their clients and families using skills and strength-based language.

3.To examine how substance addiction affects couple and family relationships and various roles and functions within those relational systems,

5.To explore and articulate addiction professionals role in Bronfenbrenners Ecological Systems Theory, incorporating multicultural & social justice issues.

Trainers
Betony Jacobs, LCSW, CADC I, QMHP, Betony is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has over 12 years of experience working with individuals and families, successfully weaving together a person-centered approach within a systems framework. She is committed to strengthening recovery through engagement of the community and a supportive network and uses her passion and experience to empower families to harness their strengths, allowing them to make their goals attainable. She is De Paul Treatment Centers Family Program supervisor and spent the most recent years training master level interns to enter the professional field of addiction and mental health.
Megan Brown, MS, MFT, Megan Brown is a graduate of Portland State University, with a Masters in Science for Marital, Couples & Family Therapy. She has taken specific training in addition to her intensive field placement working with families that have substance use and mental health as part of their family history. As a peer supervisor in her practicum and a leader among her co-workers and fellow interns, she was eager to accept a position with De Paul after graduation as a full-time Addiction and Family Counselor. This is her first time presenting in a workshop format material which represents her passion and work. She is eager to be a part of the collaborative training experience.

Please notify CDTC if you are unable to attend training.
Refund: A refund of the registration cost, not any associated fees, may be given only when notification is given at least 3 days
prior to the training. Notification under 3 days will follow the credit
agreement.
Credit: If notification is given within 1 week after the training, a credit will be
given for the next training only.
If CDTC cancels training, registration fees will be refunded in full.
Lunch:There is a one hour lunch break on your own. There is a large cafeteria at the hospital in addition to a smaller cafe and coffee shop with pre-made meals available. Several lunch options are available to the East, past I-205. It is recommended that you check google maps to check for lunch options including Sweet Tomatoes, Chuck's Produce, or fast food restaurants such as Arby's, Taco Bell or Burgerville.
