Real Talk: Communication Strategies for a White Anti-Racist Welcome Wagon (Session #2 & #3)
ABOUT THE WEBINAR / SERIES: We are living in unprecedented times. Led by the visionary leadership of Black-led movements for justice and liberation, large numbers of white people are taking to the streets, and engaging in real conversations about systemic racism with other white folks.
Join us for a webinar series for white people who care about racial justice and social change, to learn tools and strategies to communicate with their people across political differences. These skills and this practice will be critical in the aftermath of election day.
Sessions will be led by AORTA (Anti-Oppression Resource Training Alliance; http://aorta.coop) trainers Jenna Peters Golden and Marc Mascarenhas-Swan.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
In Session #1, we started with a training sharing frameworks and tools for effectively communicating about racism, racial justice, and political change. If you missed this Session, please email us for the recording of presentation.
Sessions #2 and #3, will be two 2 hour practice pods, where we share more tools, as well as our collective approaches and challenges in doing this work.
Everyone is welcome to attend; please bear in mind this conversation is designed for white folks committed to understanding and disrupting systemic racism in our lives and communities.
PRACTICE POD PRICING: **THIS COVERS BOTH WORKSHOPS** $0-$50 (Sliding Scale) We have created a tiered and sliding scale ticketing structure in an effort to ensure that anyone who wants to attend, can do so. We are not making profit off this event. Any/all monies received will cover the labor of the facilitators and miscellaneous event production fees (such as, paying for the online hosting platform or paid advertising).
BEYOND SESSION #1 WANNA DIG DEEPER? Participants are invited to attend 2 Practice Pods aka smaller formations, where small groups will meet to practice the skills and prepare for real life scenarios. We are asking participants to commit to attend both sessions. (Capacity: 25 people)
Dates: Practice Pod #1: November 17 at 7-8:30pm
Practice Pod #2: December 1 at 7-8:30pm
**Registration will be made live after October 27th webinar**

ABOUT AORTA AORTA is a worker-owned cooperative devoted to strengthening movements for social justice. We work as consultants, facilitators, and trainers to expand the capacity of progressive organizations and projects through education, training, and planning. We base our work on an intersectional approach to liberation because we believe that true change requires uprooting all systems of oppression.
AORTA'S APPROACH AORTA takes a hands-on, liberatory approach to our work with clients. We believe strongly in the power of education and facilitation to politicize, empower, and develop leadership to create powerful systemic transformation. We draw heavily upon the approaches and techniques of popular education to develop workshops that are interactive, engaging, and designed to catalyze community movement. We apply an intersectional and anti-oppression lens to all the work we do, because we believe that in order to create true change we must uproot all systems of oppression in all spaces.
