Événement

Jacqueline Francis and Friends
In the Spring of 2010, Jacqueline Francis's mother Judith Rondinelli Gecan, was diagnosed with ALS.  The same week, she released her first studio recording.  When she found out about her mother's diagnosis, she decided to forgo all promotion of her new record to help take care of her mom.  When she told her mother about her hiatus, Judith made her promise that after she passed, she would record a full length album for her.

Jacqueline's indiegogo fundraising campaign is already halfway there, but she still needs a good chunk of change to keep her promise.  The 16th Street House show series has been on ice for about a year--but upon reading her story, we decided we had to get involved!

What's better than buying a ticket to hear a musician for a charitable cause?  Buying a ticket to hear THREE great musicians--local singer-songwriters, Lauren Calve and Emily Henry, join the lineup-- for a charitable cause that includes a wonderful spread of homemade food!  Jacqueline is also a great cook and baker, and will be making the food for the night to ensure that your mouths are just as happy as your ears!

The 16th Street House is about as intimate as a home venue gets--every seat is a front seat.  On the fourth Thursday of the month, we present a very unique experience--dinner and a show!  All three artists will be playing their own original music--but rumors are swirling about some pretty special collaboration!  All proceeds will go towards Jacqueline's indiegogo campaign.  If we fill the basement, we can raise $1,000!  Won't you join us?  Get your ticket soon, there are only 40 seats...

Some words about your performers for the evening:

Jacqueline holds an M.A. in Creative Writing from New York University, and is likely to be found thinking, musing, writing, singing, cooking, baking, bumping into things, or contorting her face. A combination of Julia Child and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, with a piano.

Virginia native Lauren Calve is a singer-songwriter based in Washington, D.C. Steeped in American roots music, Calve's songs are by turns anthemic and poetic as they move between rousing blues-rock, sweeping folk-driven numbers, and delicate balladry. Her multifaceted vocal style takes inspiration from such powerful female singers as Patty Griffin, Bonnie Raitt, and Emmylou Harris to which she adds the steely, haunting sounds of the slide resonator guitar. She has just released her debut EP "Between the Creek and the Tracks" to rave reviews, and will be touring the east coast in support.

Emily Henry is an acoustic folk-pop singer-songwriter whose exquisite voice and depth of feeling will make you ache. A writer first, her songs are delicate, complex constructions that tell intimate stories about the heart and the ways we communicate it - or fail to. With catchy melodies and a strong pop sensibility, her music will leave you humming, and thinking, all day.
Henry began singing at a very young age, writing songs at eleven, and put the final piece of the puzzle together by learning guitar at fourteen. Ever since, she has been performing and honing her craft. In 2005 she was a finalist in the 22nd Mid-Atlantic Song Contest for her song "Las Vegas" and she received an honorable mention in the acoustic/folk category of the 10th Annual UniSong International Songwriting Contest for her song "Birds Without Wings". From 2006 to 2009 she spent summers assistant teaching songwriting at the University of Virginia Young Writers Workshop, an intensive, highly accoladed writing program for teens. With 2009 came college graduation and travel, and Henry has now performed her music in England, Spain, and most recently South Korea, where she lived for a year.
Having returned to the United States and recorded a full-length demo, Henry currently plays out regularly in the D.C./Maryland/Virginia area and is in the process of gathering musicians for her first fully produced album.
