Songs That Make the Heart Strings Zing
~~~~This is a Pay-What-You-Want Event~~~~
Theatrical indie pop Serenity Fisher and the Cardboard Hearts are bringing back their annual Valentines Concert with "Songs That Make the Heart Strings Zing."
I, Serenity, of the aforementioned band, have been finding solace and joy in playing songs that make my heart feel that zingy thing. That zing that makes warmth and happiness bloom in my heart.
I know that I'm not alone in feeling overwhelm and despair at this spinning world of ours that contains so much pain and suffering - that my adult self can make no more sense of than my inner five year old self ever could. I find that sitting at the piano and singing those zing-inducing songs is instrumental (pun!) in soothing and restoring my state of mind and heart.
This concert is about creating an experience for all of us to feel that heart string zing thing. I want the music to music wash over you and make you feel any of the following: relaxed, happy, inspired, respite, good vibes, soothed, uplifted. To make this concert a moment where we can all share some musical magic together. In my experience, the musical magic I speak of is not generated by the band alone. It's created by all of us in attendance: the performers, audience, sound engineers, venue hosts, etc. It's so extremely lovely when that magic happens. It becomes that zingy feeling that you get in community when you share a moving experience.
We're so happy that Vineyard Central said yes to us hosting the concert in their lovely space (formerly St. Elizabeth church).
We want this show to be open to all regardless of cost, so this is a pay what you choose event. The first ticket price is variable, so you can write in any amount that you want including ZERO. We'll have a place to pay at the door, so whether you choose to pay at the door or attend for zero dollars, we won't know. We just want you there. We've also made some tiers with fixed rates that you can choose if you want. All of the tiers reserve your space at the concert.
The profits from this event will go to pay the musicians and cover expenses such as heating for the venue and tuning the piano. If you're able to share a bit more to help with these costs we appreciate it. More than anything we appreciate your presence.
On to the show!
I asked Rachel Mousie if she would start the night out for us. Rachel is one of my favorite songwriters and humans. EVERY song of hers makes me feel zingy - no exagerration. There's something so cleverly crafted about her lyrics, instrumentation, and arrangements. She uses a looping machine and with claps, snaps, piano riffs, and harmonies on loop she builds and then unbuilds the coolest songs/songscapes. Rachel is music magic.
The lyrics to her song "So Much Light" perfectly describe the vibe of this concert:
"And to be true I'll tell you this much light I did not think was possible.
And to be true I'll tell you far away doesn't feel so impossible.
And to be true I'll tell you that there's plenty of time to hear one more song."
Listen to that song here and tell me you didn't get the zing. https://rachelmousie.bandcamp.com/album/talk-to-your-babies
The doors will open at 6:30pm. Rachel begins at 7pm. Serenity Fisher and the Cardboard Hearts will be performing at 7:48-ish pm.
