Bus Tour of Homesteads in the Driftless Area
New Glarus Village Park
New Glarus, WI
Partager cet événement :

Interested in raising your own food and living closer to the land?  Yes, you can!  Take a behind-the-scenes bus tour of three inspiring Soil Sisters farmsteads doing so.  With a focus on homesteading skills, this guided bus tour will show you these women are raising vegetables, meats, eggs and fiber and feeding their families and communities.  Kitchen gardens and small-scale agriculture will be covered.

Soil Sisters will serve as your guides throughout the tour and on the bus, sharing stories and answering questions about our shared mission to steward our landscape and cultivate community.

Farm fresh snacks and samples provided.

Meet these three Blanchardville area Soil Sisters and take a "behind the scenes" tour of their farms:

Circle M Farm
Kriss Marion shares her story of how she went from former Chicago dweller to organic farmer and innkeeper. A fiber enthusiast, meet her Jacob and Merino breed sheep. With a passionate dedication to our rural communities and environment, Kriss serves on County Board and is a voice for conservation and water quality.  Hear how she successful sued the state of Wisconsin over the right to sell home baked cookies!

Dorothy's Range
The farm meets the prairie at Dorothy's Range.  Get up close and personal with April Prusia and her love for her pigs, including the rare Gloucestershire Old Spots (GOS) heritage breed. Learn about small scale meat processing.  Tour the tall grass prairie, burr oak savannah, sedge meadow, pig pasture and large gardens.

Little Red Home(Stead)
Meet Bethany Storm, an urban transplant who now runs a thriving homestead complete with perennial food crops, donkeys, goats and chickens. See how in this case new construction and building a farmhouse from the ground up can create new opportunities. Learn how Bethany now saves $15,000 annually in her family's budget by raising and DIY-ing their own harvest. Watch a YouTube video of the homestead during a concert on the property: https://youtu.be/eYwE5kxkrCw

SPECIAL NOTES:
Children under age 2 can join the bus tour for free assuming that they can sit on the lap of a parent on the bus.  All children, ages 2 to 18, must be accompanied by a paying adult.

While there are limited spaces on the bus tour, a minimum of paid registrants must be met in order for the bus tour to be offered. If the bus tour must be cancelled due to lack of paid registrants 2 weeks prior to the scheduled event, any paid registrants will be notified and refunded their payment in full.

PLEASE DO NOT VISIT FARMS PRIVATELY
