9:30 p.m. - Ah-Mer-Ah-Su LIVE

ABOUT THE FILM:
MAJOR! explores the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a formerly incarcerated Black transgender elder and activist who has been fighting for the rights of trans women of color for over 40 years. Miss Major is a veteran of the Stonewall Rebellion and a survivor of Attica State Prison, a former sex worker, an elder, and a community leader and human rights activist. She is simply Mama to many in her community. Her personal story and activism for transgender civil rights intersects LGBT struggles for justice and equality from the 1960s to today. At the center of her activism is her fierce advocacy for her girls, trans women of color who have survived police brutality and incarceration in mens jails and prisons. Ah-Mer-Ah-Su contributed music to MAJOR!

ABOUT THE MUSIC:
AH-Mer-Ah-Su is the music project of artist Star Amerasu, whose music and art is based upon her experiences as a black, transwoman in society which effortlessly blends her voice with intricate beats and twinkling synths. Her voice has been compared to Nina Simone and her music is a synthesis of choir kid meets club kid creating a whole league of it's own. Following up her two critically acclaimed EP's ("Eclipsing" and "Rebecca"), her debut album, 'Star' is a coming of age story where she examines the idea of womanhood while practicing self-compassion and self-forgiveness regarding the trauma that queer people tend to experience in today's society. Ah-Mer-Ah-Su's debut full length parallels Solange's 'A Seat At The Table' but for black queer folx. With her earlier work being influenced primarily by folk and choral music, Ah-Mer-Ah-Su worked closely with indie producer Vice Cooler and club hit maker davOmakesbeats to create an album of electronic positive, genuine club anthems that speak to the queer + trans community.
