Seahurst Saturdays: Scatoloty- Odd Digestion in the Animal Kingdom

Calling all scatologists! Scientists refer to animal poop as scat and can use it learn a lot about the animals they are studying. We will compare human digestion to other animals and see if we can digest a cracker without using our mouths or stomachs. We will then hit the trail looking for scat that other animals and surveying plants to study the favorite food sources of the animals of Seahurst. Along the hike, we will play decomposition to find out what happens to dead plants in the forest. Upon returning to the center, we will learn about digestion in birds of prey by dissecting a real owl pellet! Each participant will take home their own bag of bones from the owl pellet dissection.
Seahurst Saturdays help families connect to nature and learn more about the diverse life around them at Seahurst Park in Burien, WA. Scatology is geared towards families with K-8th grade students but all ages are welcome! Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
