Hearth Cooking: Beyond the Basics class at Landis Valley
This class will take you past the basics of 18th and 19th century cooking in the Landis Valley Tavern hearth and bake oven. This is a hands-on class in which basic knowledge of hearth cooking will be helpful. You will use period recipes and equipment to prepare spit roasted meat, planed fish, boiled pudding, cheese, bread, wafers, syllabub and more. Each day will end with a meal of class made dishes.
Instructor and food historian Linda Zeigler has 30 years experience with hearth cooking, and bake ovens. She has demonstrated and interpreted historic foodways at many central PA museums. Linda has a passion for all aspects of 18th and 19th century domestic life and enjoys passing her knowledge on to others through demonstrations and classes.
Please bring an apron and dress in long pants or skirts of natural fiber. No synthetic material. Wear close-toed shoes.
Class is part of Landis Valley's 2018 Summer Institute.

Please note that prices quoted include a catered breakfast and lunch in the Yellow Barn each day for Institute participants. If you choose to forgo the meals, please choose the NO-MEAL pricing option, which is $20 less per day you are participating in Institute.
Cancellation Policy:
Registrations will be taken up until June 1. We reserve the right to cancel a class due to insufficient registration. Students can make another choice or receive a full refund. Please read the information in your confirmation regarding any materials/tools you may need.
Students must be age 18 or older. Please visit our website, www.landisvalleymuseum.org, for more information on Institute. Landis Valley Associates (LVA) members receive 5% off their registration. If you are a member, please check our website for the code listed with the class and enter it in the "Discount Code" field at checkout.
