Événement

Dave Boutette, Chris Buhalis and Bill Edwards in the Round
The special intimacy that only comes from sharing firelight is where Dave Boutette finds his home. Songs of highway hijinks and wildcat oil drillers in the Michigan woods are as likely to be heard as old favorites that have been in your head and heart for years. For Boutette, its the sharing of songs that holds all the magic. Come on over, join the circle, sing a tune, or stir the coals. Youre welcome to hang until first light. Just be careful not to wake the folks in the tents.

Before stepping out on his own, Boutette spent ten years with the Detroit-based alterna-rock bar kings The Junk Monkeys. The band toured the nation relentlessly supporting such acts as The Goo Goo Dolls and Hootie and the Blowfish, while recording under the Warner Bros./Metal Blade label from 1990-93.

In 1994 Dave came to Ann Arbor and soon found himself playing open mics and farm markets for tips. The rich and gifted Ann Arbor acoustic music scene provided an ideal environment for Dave to test his songwriting skills.

Influenced by songwriters that span from Chuck Berry to Chuck Brodsky, Dave documents the trips and triumphs of life between the coasts. With a full band or solo acoustic, Boutette easily reveals a Midwest experience worthy of a second look with performances that are engaging, exhilarating, and often peppered with stories culled from his times on the road and his years growing up in the shadow of Detroit.

Chris Buhalis' latest CD Big Car Town was nearly two decades in the making.  It followed his award winning CD, Kenai Dreams, which put the talented Ann Arbor based songwriter on a national stage.

"Chris Buhalis' Kenai Dreams is a wonder of blood and bone, spirit and earth...Buhalis makes music simply and directly. His country folk leanings have been tempered by and cut from the land itself; his is above all American music in all its contradictions and rough-hewn grace..." - Thom Jurek

Chris draws inspiration from legends like Townes Van Zandt and Woody Guthrie, but he uses their influence to create music that is all his own.

Bill Edwards is both a master of the songwriting craft as well as a seasoned and compelling performer.

Having started his career in the singer-songwriter scene in Buffalo, NY in the 70s, his journey has led him through bluegrass to country-rock, back to singer-songwriter and most recently to classic country. He claims Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell as formative influences, and says hes most at home in the rich fields theyve tilled so ably.

All along the way, the constant has been songwriting. Bill won the Country division of Billboards® national songwriting contest and his songs have been recorded by other artists and featured on TV and on the silver screen. Hes held staff-writer positions in Nashville and studied the craft at the feet of masters.

Bill can more than hold his own with both acoustic and electric guitar, and sings with an expressive voice that brings his songs to life like no one elses. Years of shows for audiences small and large have honed his performance skills, whether solo, with his trio or with the six-piece Bill Edwards Band.
Bill says that songs should move your heart or move your feet, or even better, both. Give him a listen. We think youll find yourself moved.
