January Plant Walk

During this two hour outdoor walk at Lincoln Park in West Seattle, we will get to know various coastal and forest plants in their winter forms. We will encounter Pacific madrone, gumweed, willow and black cottonwood, among other important medicinal plants of the season and place. Natalie will share the timing, sustainable harvest, processing and use of the plants we meet on our way, as well as how to identify and where to look for them. Though this class is focused on medicinal plants, Natalie shares other tidbits, including material, culinary and edible uses.

Lincoln Park was chosen for this walk because of its coastal microclimate, which offers a unique set of plants. It also has extensive forest and several interesting ornamental trees of note.

We will carry on despite the weather, so dress accordingly. Part of being a forager is being out in all weather, which Natalie believes builds a strong spirit and connection to place.

I host plant walks every month in various parks, even in the winter! Attending them in different seasons is a good way to expand your repertoire.
