A program-discussion of the book's FIDDLERS DREAM Old-Time, Swing, and Bluegrass Fiddling in Twentieth-Century Missouri, Howard Wight Marshall, main themes, with live music will illustrate some of the tunes in the book and on the companion music CD, accompanied by the well-known old-time banjoist, Patty McMillen, of Chicago.

After the program, which would take 45 minutes to an hour, there will be a book signing and informal discussion with the audience.

Howard Wight Marshall is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Missouri and former director of the Missouri Cultural Heritage Center.

Marshall's book Carries the reader through an extraordinarily wide range of people and places and introduces each of the many key fiddlers or influencers with the sort of full background information that characterizes deep ethnographic presentation.Thomas A. Adler, author of Bean Blossom: The Brown County Jamboree and Bill Monroes Bluegrass Festivals

A rich evocation of Missouri fiddlers and fiddling during the period of greatest change in American musical history.Sarah Bryan, folklorist and editor of the Old-Time Herald

This book explores and documents the heritage of traditional fiddles and music in Missouri, with emphasis on the 1920s-60s, decades of great change in cultural traditions, in daily life, and in styles and repertoires of fiddle music. Building upon Howard Marshalls earlier book on old-time fiddlers in Missouri, Play Me Something Quick and Devilish, the author uses oral history, archival photographs, and transcriptions of selected tunes to trace the evolution of traditional fiddle music in Missouri from the early 1920s through the abrupt changes in American society and traditional music in the 1960s.

The book focuses on fiddle music in everyday life at parties, dances, and pie suppers as the twentieth century brought new technology and cultural shifts. Marshalls wealth of knowledge, gained through a lifetime of involvement in Missouri fiddle traditions, gives the book exceptional richness and depth. Included with this book is a music CD of 30 archival recordings from 1939 to 2015 produced with Voyager Records.
