Description:
Artists usually want their work to speak for itself, but how you present your work on paper is often what separates artists who win awards and receive shows from the ones who don't. In this workshop, artist Greg Pierce will discuss how to successfully present your work, including artist statements, artist resumes, cover letters, and how to use them to apply for regional, national, and international grants and residencies.

About the instructor:
Asia Tail is from Tacoma, Washington where she is currently based. Her practice focuses on oil painting and drawing. Asia attended the Cooper Union School of Art in New York on a four-year full-tuition scholarship and graduated with a BFA and the Brandon Burns Stewart Memorial Prize for Excellence in Painting in 2014. She was an Artist Trust GAP Grant recipient and a Greater Tacoma Community Foundation Art Award nominee in 2015. Her work has recently been featured in the internationally distributed magazine New American Paintings, the exhibition NW Art Now @ TAM (formerly the Northwest Biennial), and in the exhibition Quota at SOIL Gallery in Seattle.

As an extension of her art making, Asia also creatively curates special projects and art exhibitions, with an emphasis on empowering Indigenous artists. In 2015, she created the Contemporary Native Voices project for Tacoma Art Museum, interviewing over 20 individuals on Native American representation in art, and integrating Native voices into the museums galleries through wall text, interactive activities, and commissioned performances. In 2016, she independently curated her first exhibition, Protect the Sacred at Spaceworks Gallery in Tacoma, which brought together work from 26 Native American artists and raised funds to fight the Dakota Access Pipeline construction in North Dakota. Asia is an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.

Cancellations and Refunds

Artist Trust reserves the right to cancel any program. If cancelled, a full refund will be applied. If a participant needs to cancel for a paid program, the following policy will apply:

A full refund can be issued through Brown Paper Tickets if notified 5 days prior to the program date.

A transfer credit of equal or lesser value can be issued (through Artist Trust) if notified within 48 hours of program. Credit will be valid for up to 12 months.

Artist Trust cannot provide refunds for missed classes. Please contact the coordinator if you have any questions regarding specific content of the workshop.

These refund policies are in place because workshops have limited space and this is intended to ensure we are able to offer the space to another attendee if notice is provided far enough in advance.
