The Wicked Wit of the West
Thursday, January 24 at 7:30pm

Featuring Hank Rosenfeld

Presented by the 2013 Minneapolis Jewish Humor Festival

Irving Brecher is the funniest writer you've never heard of. He wrote At the Circus and Go West for the Marx brothers and classic musicals Bye Bye Birdie and Meet Me in St. Louis. He began in vaudeville times writing for the 25 year-old star Milton Berle, and created TV's first situation comedy, The Life of Riley. He was thrown out of hotels with Groucho from West Virginia to Wyoming, and when asked by a documentary crew to define Marx Bros. humor Brecher simply answered: "Jewish". His career covers the entire spectrum of American entertainment, beginning with vaudeville and encompassing movies, radio, plays, television and even doing stand-up and ranting on YouTube into his 90s.

Grab friends and family and learn All About Irv from NPR storyteller, Hank Rosenfeld, who spent seven years sharing pastrami sandwiches with "Irv the Nerve" (a.k.a. "the wicked wit of the west" as Groucho dubbed him), eventually yielded "yarns" for his memoir. Through rare film footage and audio clips, Rosenfeld will captivate Jewish humor lovers, fans of stage and screen, old-time TV/radio aficionados, and dedicated deli fressers and Garland gourmands everywhere.

Recommended for ages 12 and up.

Tickets:
$12 general; $10 JCC premium/community members, students

Event will be followed by a Q&A with the audience, as well as a sale/signing of "The Wicked Wit of the West by Irving Brecher as-told-to Hank Rosenfeld", published by Ben Yehuda Press.
