Free lecture on Natural Plant & Animal Fibers

In Celebration of the 16th Annual Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival with Brandy Chastain, founder and director.

WHAT: The Winona Grange opens its doors to the public for a free lecture presentation about the full spectrum of natural fibers (plant and animal) from beginning to end, from the animal or raw fiber to the finished product. www.flockandfiberfestival.com

Brandy Chastain is the owner of the Whistlestop Shetland Sheep Farm www.whistlestopshetlands.com with her husband Jim. They have been raising Shetland sheep for over 10 years. To improve the flock and bring the quality closer to that of the Shetland flock standard, an importation of semen from Sheltand Island sheep was made in 2001. After seven years of Artificial Insemination (AI), this flock shows fine, crimpy fleece that's a delight to handspinners. The stock have lovely small tails, straight backs and the rams have lovely horns.

Jim has traveled to Scotland and to Shetland many times, getting to know sheep breeders and sheep dog trialers.
Whistlestop Farm supports a terrific pack of Border Collies. Several of them are excellent helpers when the sheep need to be moved or caught.
Brandy enjoys daily contact with the sheep. As a former RN, she is in charge of the health maintenance program for all pets, working animals and livestock.
