Rug hooking is a traditional art form akin to quilting. Scraps of wool or other fibers are cut into strips and worked into a pattern drawn on backing. Using a traditional rug hook, loops are drawn through from back to front. No knots are involved and the pressure from adjacent loops serves to keep the work in place. Unlike the familiar latch hook, whos roots lie in Europe, or locker hooking from Australia, primitive rug hooking was founded in North America. Women created these durable works of art to cover chilly floors. Rug hooking was also practiced by sailors during long stretches at sea. The class includes a rug pattern on warp cloth backing, all the wool needed to complete the project, and a rug hook. The instructor will have sturdy hoops for students to use in class that may be purchased if desired. Scissors needed. No experience needed.
