LESLEY STAHL - BECOMING GRANDMA
Audience Q&A, Door Prize drawings and book signing follows presentation.
After forty years as an award-winning reporter and television journalist, Lesley Stahl discovered the most vivid and transformative experience of her life was not covering the White House, political scoops, hosting Face the Nation, interviewing heads of state, or her many stories for 60 Minutes. Instead, it was becoming a grandmother.
In her new book BECOMING GRANDMA: The Joys and Science of the New Grandparenting, Stahl presents an engaging investigation of this intense, joy-filled phenomenon. Using her journalistic skills, Stahl embarked on a journey to explore how grandmothering changes a womans life, interviewing many friends (and fellow grandmothers) including: Whoopi Goldberg and colleague Diane Sawyer; grandfathers like Tom Brokaw; as well as the proverbial woman next door. Stahl also spoke with scientists and doctors about physiological changes in women when they have grandchildren; anthropologists about why there are grandmothers in evolutionary terms; and psychiatrists about the therapeutic effects of grandchildren on both grandmothers and grandfathers. Throughout the book, Stahl shares stories from her own life with two granddaughters.
In an era when Baby Boomers are becoming grandparents in droves and busy young parents need all the help they can get raising their children, Stahls book is a timely and affecting report from the frontline of modern grandparenting.one that redefines a cherished relationship.
