Eclectic Mexico

Travel to colonial and modern Mexico at LACMA and discover the international influences in the country's art and food where Spanish, Middle Eastern, Asian and African aesthetics and flavors blend together creating a unique cuisine. Then meet at Surfas where Maite and Chef Stephanie Parra Sabaud of Zaatar Kitchen will lead the group in the preparation of an eclectic Mexican/Lebanese meal.

ABOUT ARTBITES:
Maite Gomez-Rejon has a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Grande Diplome from the French Culinary Institute in New York City. Since 1995 Maite has worked in the education departments of such renowned museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art, LACMA and the Getty Villa; and has worked as a private chef and caterer. In 2007, Maite founded ArtBites, art and culinary history combined with hands-on cooking instruction, which she teaches at museums across the country. Maite has been a guest on the Today Show, featured in Food & Wine magazine and interviewed on NPR's Splendid Table. Her blog, Cooking Art History, appears in The Huffington Post.

ABOUT ZAATAR KITCHEN:
Stephanie Parra is a classically trained chef, caterer, and culinary arts teacher from Los Angeles CA. Her 12 years of experience in the food and beverage industry has shaped her knowledge and cooking style to include diverse dishes from around the world with vibrant flavors, yet still retaining nutrition as a focus. She is inspired by her Mexican-Lebanese heritage and the notion that every community has the right to have access to delicious and healthy food.
