You can call it "Americana", "Alt-country", or "Roots-rock".  Over the years the genre has been given many names.  But in the end it doesn't really matter what you call it, so long as the music is honest, heartfelt, and well played.  Boston is currently in the midst of an "Americana" revival (yes, that's the current term). This is a familiar enough pattern, for it seems that Boston repeatedly gravitates towards bands that channel the "soul" of rock 'n roll, country and blues.

Highway Ghosts are a driving force in the current Americana scene.  Their debut CD "After All This Time" has received National acclaim from a variety of media outlets.  The Boston Globe listed it in their Top Local CDs of 2009. "On 'After All This Time,' Highway Ghosts masterfully blend roots-rocking guitars, ragged-but-right vocals set to rustic melodies, and other good stuff that never goes out of style when it's done right. Echoing the late-night/early morning feel of alt-country progenitors such as the BoDeans and the Jayhawks, this is an auspicious debut that brims with equal parts heartache, swagger, and a dose of hard-won wisdom."

The Boston Globe has also stated that Highway Ghosts are "...another reminder that geography no longer dictates where you'll find compelling country rock."  The Patriot Ledger echoes this sentiment, declaring the band to be "...a testament to the enduring and thriving roots music scene in the Greater Boston area...".

Highway Ghosts are proud to follow in the footsteps of the band that inspired them the most:  Swinging Steaks.  The Steaks are among the originators of the current Americana movement (long before that term was coined!). Fueled by singer/songwriters Jamie Walker, Tim Giovanniello, and Jim Gambino the group's material explores a rich diversity of musical Americana from full tilt rockers to mandolin-driven melodies and soulful ballads.

Creem Magazine calls Swinging Steaks "the best country-rock out of Boston since Harvard student Gram Parsons put together his International Submarine Band".  They have won multiple Boston Music Awards for "Best Country Act" (again, there was no "Americana" category at the time).

The Steaks' second album, "Southside of the Sky" introduced the band to a national audience with two top ten AAA radio singles and appearances on NBC-TV's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and NPR's "Mountain Stage". Their self-released albums, "Suicide at the Wishing Well", "Shiner", "Bare", and "KickSnareHat" have continued to expose the group to new audiences and garner them appearances at SXSW, CMJ Music Marathon and Nashville Extravaganza.  In 2005 the band released "Sunday Best" on First National Records in the U.S. and Blue Rose in Europe.

The Steaks have appeared with John Fogerty, Hank Williams,Jr., the Black Crowes, Poco, Los Lobos, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Paul Westerberg, The Band, Jason and the Scorchers among others and have toured extensively on their own in several North American cities as well as Hong Kong.

Highway Ghosts and Swinging Steaks cordially invite you to join them for an amazing night of music at one of the city's prime venues: Lizard Lounge.
