The Cowards Choir / Tina & Her Pony / Sara Curtin
After ten years on the road, hundreds of shows and shelves of song-filled notebooks, Andy Zipf is taking a new name: The Cowards Choir. "In 2009 I released The Cowards Choir EP. It was the first time I remember feeling like I'd found my voice.," said Zipf. "Something changed." Two years later Zipf's voice strengthened and expanded. The "Jealous Hands" LP showcased this seasoned range and clearer vision. "As far as I'm concerned, Jealous Hands is my first record. My friend and producer Jeremy Griffith figured out how to capture the sound I'd been hearing my head all this time." He called it a "new direction", turning down a bit of the aggression, tightening up melodies and honing his true to life lyrics. "It took me a few years to figure things out. I'm grateful for the time I've had to chip away at some edges. Now I'm ready to begin again." Zipf has always been committed to growth. "I never want to stop learning. I want to be a better singer and songwriter. It takes many years and miles" He's taken that ethic to stages and street corners across the US, and its not gone unnoticed. Zipf's music continues to surface on network television and in independent films, and has participated in campaigns with ONE and To Write Love On Her Arms. Turning to the people, he has consistently utilized his fan-base to support tours, fund albums and share his story via direct social media connection. Zipf rewards that loyalty with an unwavering commitment to creating music rooted in honesty. He gets on the floor at shows and sings from the back row. He turns the room into a cinema, coats every surface with colors and old film. Zipf doesn't believe in playing music, rather immersing the audience in it. He is constantly looking for ways to create an experience that taps into equal parts rock and roll and big tent revival.
In August of 2013, The Cowards Choir released the Reunion EP. For this next chapter, Zipf enlisted long time friends and collaborators Ryan Walker (bass), Ben Tufts (percussion) and Adam Neubauer (drums).
A year later, they have been featured on WAMU 88.5 Metro Connection, nominated as one of DC's best upcoming bands by Deli Magazine, and mentioned by Rolling Stone after backing up Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic during a surreal performance of Lorde's "Royals".
This summer, Zipf and crew went into Studio V just outside Washington, D.C. with Sound Masonry to record the COOL CURRENCY EP. The core of the songs were tracked live and the energy is palpable.
COOL CURRENCY was released October 4, 2014 on iTunes, Spotify, Rdio, Noisetrade and most other digital outlets. It's the sound of four friends making music together in the same room.

With warm smiles and honest simplicity, Tina & Her Pony bring a unique sound to the American folk tradition, featuring original songs that echo the sound of Appalachia, while creating new waves with radical, queer lyrics, uncommon instrumentation and vocals tighter than your mamas' brazier.
Tina & Her Pony formed in Asheville, N.C. in 2009 following the chance meeting of Tina Collins (tenor banjo, tenor ukulele, guitar, vocals) and Quetzal Jordan (cello, guitar, vocals). Collins and Jordan spent the last two years holed up in the high desert mountain town of Taos, New Mexico, making music and friends, and becoming one of the iconic artist colony's most beloved performing acts.
Tina and Her Pony released their full length, self-titled debut album in March 2012. The album was mixed and mastered in Oakland, Calif. with Myles Boisen (The Tigerlilies; Kronos Quartet) and features trumpeter Chris Grady (also featured on Tom Waits' Mule Variations).
In addition, the group released its six-track EP "Walkin' in My Sleep" in March 2012. The sound on the EP has a playful, low-fi quality that highlights Collins' and Jordans magnetic synergy as a standalone duo. Both albums are now available for download on iTunes and Amazon.

Sara Curtin is an electric singer/songwriter with a taste for confessional lyrics and velvety vocals. Brightest Young Things calls her "One of DC's finest." She is a 2014 and 2015 Artist Fellow (DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities) and has won 4 Washington Area Music Awards with her duo The Sweater Set. As The Sweater Set, Sara has toured the United States, UK, and Ireland and has opened for Lucius, Pearl and The Beard, Dar Williams, Arc Iris, and Michelle Shocked.
