The Jackson County Players was founded in 2007 following the success of the production of Ripley, The Man and the Town that Honors His Name. The show was written by Mike Ruben and directed by Christina Iman (then Bright), and it featured many of Ripley's present-prominent citizens in roles of Ripley's past-prominent citizens. Produced for the town's 175th anniversary, its success proved local audiences were receptive to live theater.
Since its inception, the group has produced a wide range of shows, from original musicals (such as The Ripe Banana) to theater classics (like Our Town), one-acts, sketch comedy, open mic nights, murder mystery dinner theaters, and much more.
Our Rising Stars and Starburst programs feature our area's younger talents. Each summer, The Jackson County Players stage children's theater, now known as Starburst, for elementary-aged children. The new Rising Stars program allows middle-and high school-aged actors to shine.
The Players is comprised of a Board of Directors and many members at large who participate, but you do not have to have a 'card-carrying member' to audition and take part in any of our shows. Just look for audition announcements on Facebook, this website, the newspaper, or other local media outlets.
The Players holds an annual meeting to inform its membership of the past year's accomplishments and provide a look to the future. That is also when new board members are elected. That meeting is open to anyone who wishes to attend. We hope to see you soon at a meeting, auditions, or in the audience of one of our shows!
