One of Seattle's most venerable arts organizations, the Thalia Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1949, when violinist, teacher and conductor Mikael Scheremetiew organized a group of Seattle musicians in order to be able to perform full operas. Thalia currently presents concerts at Town Hall, in downtown Seattle at Eighth and Seneca, and performs programs that feature treasures from standard orchestral repertoire. Some 60 members strong, the orchestra is excited to have the opportunity to perform under the baton of Joseph Pollard White, Music Director since the fall of 2016. Maestro White continues Thalia's tradition of fine conductors, whose list includes Michael Miropolsky, Francis Walton, Eric Hanson, and Stanley Chapple.
