Événement

Three waiting-rooms
Mattie Barbier, Tim Feeney, Stephanie Cheng Smith and Cassia Streb invite the audience to explore a site specific, collectively-conceived project blurring the sonic boundaries between the indoor and outdoor, the live and recorded. Three sounding sculptures via speakers and objects in the lobby; three sounding performances in the warehouse; three ways of building and shifting perspectives.
.
Marbles, keys, tubes, dishes,
Drones, shrieks, rustles, rattles,
Thumbtacks, whistles, coasters, pinecones,
Pebbles, sirens, washtubs, dice.

Artist Bios:

Mattie Barbier is an LA based musician and sonic researcher focused on experimental intonation, noise, and the physical processes of their instrument. Their playing has been described by the LA Times as being "of intense, brilliant, virtuosic growling that gave the striking impression that Barbier was dismantling the instrument while playing it," by the Wire as exploring the nooks of instrumental tone far beyond the reach of most mortals, and by the New Yorker as being a "diabolically inventive trombonist-composer."
Mattie engages in collaborative relationships with a range of musicians including Michelle Lou, Weston Olencki, Catherine Lamb, Kevin Drumm, Kaori Suzuki, Sarah Davachi,  Jacob Kirkegaard, and Katherine Young. https://mattiebarbier.com/

Stephanie Cheng Smith is a composer, performer and programmer who creates interactive pieces, installations, improvisations and through-composed works. She often uses electronics, violin and light, and creates bespoke motor array instruments for use in installations and performances. Serving on the wulf.s Artistic Advisory Board, she also curates and produces experimental music concerts online and in the Los Angeles area.

Cassia Streb is a sound artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She writes music for specific situations and for special places. Her work is often composed for friends and colleagues in order to highlight aspects of their musicality that she admires. Cassia plays viola, small percussion instruments and found objects in her work with improvisation and interpretation of notated scores. Some of her recent projects include Sound House, a modular, interactive sound and puppet piece and co-founding Music for Your Inbox, a digital concert platform that presents the work of experimental visual and sound artists. www.cassia-streb.com

Tim Feeney performs, composes, and improvises sounds and images in and for forests and waterfronts, investigating unstable sound and duration. He appears in bookstores and basements with Sarah Hennies and Greg Stuart as the trio Meridian; in galleries and libraries with Vic Rawlings and Annie Lewandowski; in tunnels and train stops with Cody Putman and Cassia Streb as the trio Tasting Menu; in living rooms and warehouses with Clay Chaplin and Davy Sumner; in colleges and museums with Andrew Raffo Dewar, Holland Hopson, and Jane Cassidy; on recordings for Intakt, Black Truffle, Rhizome.s, Caduc, Full Spectrum, Sedimental, and Marginal Frequency; and in the occasional festival or concert hall with Anthony Braxton and Ingrid Laubrock.
