Ouroboros Opera presents: Tosca
Come join us on October 28th and 29th, 2022 at 8 PM for Puccini's "Tosca" (with a twist!). Our production, set in modern day, explores gender and power in a way true to both the opera itself and the times in which we live.
A triangle of interplay between faith, art, and politics drives the drama as lives are overturned in the span of one night. Tosca herself is one of the strong women of opera. She is full of fire and passion and at the same time she is just a woman trying to do the right thing in a world where political villains have power over her.
Tosca is not the only strong women in this production. For two years we have been in meetings, conferences, and phone calls talking about who opera will be for when it comes back. To put our money where our mouth is Ouroboros Opera will be presenting Tosca with Cavaradossi as a woman. Cavaradossi is an incredible rebel, painter, and activist. She is bold and stand offish and as funny and charming as Tosca. Tosca and Cavaradossi are an incredible couple and I am so honored and excited to present them to Chicago in a new way.
We hope that doing this creates new opportunities as we explore ways to include people who have had their stories left out.
