Eyes Forward: Emerging Artists: The Furies & Jordan Curcuruto
The program will include new works by Nina Shekhar and Jordan Curcuruto, among others.

THE FURIES
The Furies is a contemporary and experimental violin duo whose mission is to bring intersectional feminism into the concert hall through immersive, multi-media performance experiences, to learn more about the histories of women, and to encourage audience members to demand more diverse programming from their musical institutions.

The Furies individual and collective eclectic musical identities, incorporated with elements of theatre and performance art, has led them to develop their uniquely interdisciplinary approach to performance and programming. Not ones to limit themselves to their primary instruments, the duo performs and arranges works incorporating anything from singing/speaking, percussion, and live-processing electronics.

Most recently The Furies duo was commissioned to present a video work for CAP UCLAs Tune In Festival 2021. The duo has also been featured in Music for your Inbox, the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival and the Detroit Institute of Arts alongside Eighth Blackbird.

Both Maiani and Kate are dedicated teachers and mentors and this is reflected in their work as The Furies. Most recently they partnered with Kinds of Kings composer collective to select and premiere works by Bouman Fellows. The duo is also committed to inspiring youth to become creative and forward-thinking leaders. They presented their first workshop to Little Opera in San Francisco alongside Little Operas music director Danny Clay, which has further inspired ongoing development of educational programming from communities to organizations, and schools to universities that help and guide young people to succeed in our culture.

JORDAN CURCURUTO
Jordan Curcuruto is a percussionist specializing in contemporary solo and chamber percussion music, speaking percussion, and world music. She has performed with Monday Evening Concerts, Tuesdays at Monkspace, Los Angeles Percussion Quartet, and Left Edge Percussion. Jordan is an alumnus of the inaugural Eighth Blackbird Creative Lab, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention All-Star Ensemble, and three-time alumnus of the nief-norf summer festival. Jordan performed at the 2015 Transplanted Roots International Percussion Symposium and composed and premiered an original work at the 2017 New Music Gathering. She can be heard on the Southern Oregon University Percussion Ensembles CD, Electric Rebel Poetry, and on the Innova record release, 30, by Mark Applebaum. Jordan earned her B.M. at Chapman University with Nick Terry and Justin DeHart, and her M.M. at the Oregon Center for the Arts at Southern Oregon University with Terry Longshore. She is currently on faculty at Fullerton College.
