CANCELED: McCall SummerFest 2020: An Evening of Pops with Rachel & Matthew Tyler
After much deliberation and consideration, McCall Music Society has made the difficult decision to cancel SummerFest 2020, originally scheduled for July 12-18, due to the ongoing efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19. A McCall, Idaho tradition since 2012, this week-long festival of classical and pops orchestra concerts will resume in 2021 with Boise Philharmonic Music Director, Eric Garcia, at the helm as Artistic Director and Conductor.

"I am deeply saddened that SummerFest 2020 has been cancelled," Eric Garcia said, adding, "Our incredible orchestra, illustrious guest performers, and I will miss making music for this wonderful community. However, out of the deepest concern for the safety and well-being of our patrons, musicians and board, this was the only option. We look forward to reuniting in 2021."

According to Richard Surbeck, McCall Music Society president, "The Board of Directors remains committed to bringing great music to McCall and we will work to offer new events to our town at a more appropriate time."

Please check back for our 2021 plans!

This year's pops concert will showcase a wide range of musical favorites, from Music of the Night to Unforgettable; and orchestral arrangements of George Gershwin's Girl Crazy: Overture to Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Márquez. The orchestra will be joined by stage actress and vocalist Rachel Tyler, along with her singing partner, husband Matthew Tyler.

Rachel Tyler
Rachel Tyler began her career as a featured singer for a small band singing in an after hours nightclub, during which time she became involved with several local amateur dramatic companies. She won a three-year scholarship at the Guildford School of Acting and, immediately upon graduating, was whisked away to the European Tour of The Rocky Horror Show. She also performed in London's West End hit shows Smokey Joe's Café and Miss Saigon. After some leading roles in several Off Broadway productions in New York, she became lead vocalist for Crystal Cruises. After two years of non-stop performing, Rachel considers herself very lucky to have seen most of this wonderful world, including Antarctica, all while doing what she loves.

Rachel joined the cast of Mamma Mia on the Broadway National Tour. She spent two and a half years with the company, originally in the ensemble and very quickly moving on to play the lead role of Tanya, whom she was fortunate to portray on the 63rd Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall. Las Vegas starring roles followed, in Steve Wynn's Showstoppers and Le Reve, The Dream.

Although she loves the thrill of a big stage musical, Rachel enjoys the intimacy of a cabaret lounge, a good piano and a great torch song. She has most recently been performing her latest cabaret, Broadway & Beyond, which has been very well received. She is a founding member of the all-female singing group, Lady Luck, that is currently booking all over the world. She has worked alongside acclaimed artists such as Lorna Luft, Alan Menken, Marguerite Derricks (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), John Bucchino and Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), to name a few.

Matthew Tyler
After growing up in Northern California, Matthew Tyler moved to New York City to study acting full-time and earned his Equity card at North Shore Music Theatre. He played Brad Majors and Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the European Millennium Tour of The Rocky Horror Show, which took him to Italy, Germany, Austria, Greece, Hungary, Denmark, The Netherlands and Norway. After returning from Europe, he performed his own shows onboard ships from four different cruise lines, including Crystal, Silver Seas, Norwegian and Holland America. He performs his own solo cabaret act, as well as a duet cabaret act aboard cruise ships and cabaret venues in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Recently, Matthew completed work on the world premiere of Stephen Schwartz's brand new musical, Magic To Do, which premiered onboard Princess Cruise Lines, and was thrilled to work with Broadway talents such as director Gabriel Barre and musical arranger, Mark Hartman. Also onboard, Matthew presented his own cabaret show, One For My Baby, and he sang as Dean Martin in Rat Pack Review, a show he wrote and directed as a loving tribute to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr.

Made possible by Kent & Bev Hellman.
