35 years after he first formed the Grammy-winning band Living Colour, Vernon Reid remains one of the greatest and most distinctive guitar players alive today.
At this very special and intimate show at the legendary Bob & Barbara's Lounge on South Street, Reid teams up with two extraordinary musicians -- bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma and drummer G. Calvin Weston -- for an instrumental experience that puts the power in power trio. They call this trio: FreeFormFunkyFreqs.
Jamaaladeen Tacuma became part of Ornette Colemans Prime Time in the 1970s, and hes also worked with everyone from Jeff Beck to the Roots to Carlos Santana. Tacuma is the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
G. Calvin Weston has been playing drums since he was six years old, and he became inspired by musicians he saw like Stevie Wonder, the Jackson Five and James Brown at the Uptown Theatre. Weston became part of Colemans Prime Time at the age of 17, and hes also toured with James Blood Ulmer, Tricky, and Billy Martin, to name a few.
This is an early show. Doors open at 5pm. Showtime is at 6pm. 21+ with valid photo ID only. Tickets are $15 in advance or $25 day of show. Bonus: Bob & Barbara's fantastic house bands starts after this show is over, so you can stick around and enjoy that for free.
Because this is at Bob & Barbara's, you won't get gouged on drink prices. A shot-and-beer combo is still just $4 during the show.
Please note that while there is lots of seating at Bob & Barbara's, the venue is a combination of seating and standing room. Some areas of the bar have somewhat obstructed views of the stage. Point is: Come early, find a seat and grab a drink.
Bob & Barbara's Lounge is located at 1509 South Street. It is one block from SEPTA's Broad Street Line and the Route 40 bus stops directly across the street from the venue. Street parking is available, and there is a parking lot on the corner with an attendant.
