After a year of laying low, DaNCEBUMS have something new to share: Its All Real. Its All Fake. Its All DaNCEBUMS.

Performed to live music, Its All Real... embodies DaNCEBUMS spirit of friendship and interdisciplinary innovation by continuing our collaboration with musical wünderkind Eric Mayson and under-the-radar visual artist/designer Matt Gorrie.

Taking cues from reality television, talk shows, and social media, Its All Real.. neither represents, nor offers any solution to, contemporary lifes screen-based alienation and and anxieties. Instead we aim to unsettle the frame dividing real from fake and move through the fading illusion.

Set inside a cardboard tv studio, Its All Real... will glissade between precise technique and pedestrian efficiency as the performance degrades into a glitchy and unstable representation of itself. What's left at the end may be humbling and surprising.

Expect humor, groove, exertion, and extreme bliss.

Its All Real... is made possible with support from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, the American Composers Forum J-Fund, and generous individual donations.

About the Artists:

DaNCEBUMS is a group of five making dance collaboratively and non-hierarchically in Minneapolis. Margaret Johnson, Kara Motta, Eben Kowler, Maggie Zepp, and Karen McMenamy (DaNCEBUM emeritus) met as students in the University of Minnesotas dance department, and have collaborated in various configurations since 2011. Tightly bonded by friendship, they lived together at 601 Broadway St NE. During their two-year residency in this home, they produced a trio of original dance-rock-operas in their single-car garage.

Since 2013, DaNCEBUMS have created three evening-length shows and almost 40 short dances. They have presented work at the Walker Art Center (One-Move-Dance), Red Eye Theater (New Works 4 Weeks 2014, 2015), The Southern Theater, and the Bryant Lake Bowl (WOW, in collaboration with 6ix Families). Their webseries, moves4u2do, allows fans to take their choreography off the stage and into their lives with simple instructional videos. In 2017, they took their crowd-pleasing performance Bar Music Concert on the road to the beautiful midwestern states of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

ERIC MAYSON bounced around the US with his musical father and curator mother before finding roots in Minneapolis at age 16. He left to pursue an education in acting; but in the aftermath of a house fire, returned to Minneapolis in 2010 where he found a love for producing and playing hip-hop. Hes a multi-instrumentalist, but frequents the keys. He has played for the likes of Lizzo, Caroline Smith, Toki Wright, Big Cats, Aby Wolf, DaNCEBUMS, and as the musical backbone of Minneapolis hip-hop group Crunchy Kids. His first solo release, Detail (2015) is a 40 minute cassette tape with only one track break. He also also composes and music directs for Mixed Blood Theater, Red Eye Theater, The Childrens Theater, and Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists.

MATT GORRIE has a BFA in studio art from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He primarily works in photography, installation art, painting, and graphic design. He has presented work in Minneapolis at Mia, The Soap Factory, Intermedia Arts, The Grain Belt Bottling House, Myndwyrm Collective, in St. Paul at the 526 Gallery, and internationally Alanus Werkhaus in Bonn, Germany and Vondelbunker in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
