FILMMAKER BIO:
Zhang Wei was born in the Hunan Province of China, and he studied directing at the Beijing Film Academy and Cinema Studies at the Chinese National Academy of Arts. To date, he has directed five features including Beijing Dream (2010) and Shadow Puppet Show of One Person (2011), both of which received acclaim from critics. His third feature Factory Boss (2014) has been shown at numerous festivals, and it won the Best Actor Award at the Montréal World Film Festival and the Fajr Award for best original screenplay at the Fajr International Film Festival. His fourth feature Destiny (2016) won the Best Actress Award and the Best Actor Award at the New York SR Socially Relevant Film Festival. Ballad From Tibet is his fifth feature and won the Best Childrens Feature at the China International Childrens Film Festival in November 2017.

David Berry has made four trips to Tibet and helped a family build a guest house in the countryside near a monastery four hours northeast of Lhasa.

He is past president of one of the oldest meditation centers in North America and continues leading retreats including Daily Life as a Spiritual Practice and Your Life is your Path. David studied with the Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche since 1971 and traveled with him to Antarctica and the Arctic, and scuba diving in Indonesia. A few weeks before Namgyal Rinpoche's death, he ordained David on September 11, 2003. David co-gathered Tales of Awakening, a book of memorable interactions meditation students had with Namgyal Rinpoche.

In addition, David served seven years at the White House Council on Environmental Quality and he has spoken about sustainability in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. He is a member of the Balaton Group, an international systems and natural resources think tank. In the 1970s and 80s, David performed on Korean and American television and radio including on National Public Radio's "The Prairie Home Companion.
