Expecting (The Worst)

A fundraiser event to support a workshop production of Raising Jo by Charlotte Miller.

Expecting (The Worst) will feature new works about the trials of love by Daniel Talbott, Brett C. Leonard, Jessica Dickey, Ren Santiago, and Kara Lee Corthron.

RAISING JO is a play about the difficulty of making amends after you hurt the people who you love the most. When Calvin and Molly have a child together, they still don't fully understand what they want their relationship to be. When they're thrown into the challenges of co-parenting, they struggle with what it means to do the right thing and whether it really is enough to love someone or if it takes something more to really maintain a relationship

The show will be directed by Julie Kline, and will run in June 2018 at the Studio Theater at Theater Row. The cast will feature Chris Bellant and Sarah Jes Austell.

MOLLY: Well. Remember how you spit on my finger?
CALVIN: No.
MOLLY: You did. You spit on my finger. To lubricate my fake ring. My fake wedding ring.
CALVIN Okay.
MOLLY: You did. I know that you probably didnt go into that dinner thinking Im gonna spit on her finger.
CALVIN: No.
MOLLY: And I dont think that my Dad walked over to me, his daughter and thought, Im going to spit on that five year-old little girl of mine.
CALVIN: No.
MOLLY: So my point is that I think that sometimes people spit on other people, people they care about and they dont mean to, they dont intend to, they dont plan it but then its done. And when its done they might walk away and not know that they did the spitting thing but then when they realize it, I dont know, they feel horrible and they wash each others dresses and stuff.
CALVIN: What?
MOLLY: Um... So I guess I spit on you and walked away and didnt realize it and now that I see the mess, I want to clean it up. I want to wash your dress Calvin.
