Children's Book Illustrators 1: Points of Entry Workshops
Jennifer Mann, Woodleigh Marx Hubbard, Nikki McClure and Julie Paschkis will each offer a guided art experience for adults and children in conjunction with their exhibited work.

Jennifer Mann (Bainbridge Island), is a children's book author and illustrator who currently lives with her husband and two children, six chickens, three cats, and two dogs--a big one named Lottie, and a small one named Cody. She debuted as a book illustrator in 2013 with the picture book Turkey Tot, by George Shannon, published by Holiday House. She is the author and illustrator of the recently published picture book Two Speckled Eggs from Candlewick Press.
A former architect who spent many years designing stores for a big architecture firm in Seattle, discovered a desire to switch gears and become a picture book author and illustrator, after having children and reading beautiful books to her own kids. She finds inspiration in many places: watching her children's antics and discoveries, her own memories from childhood and the general silliness in her everyday domestic life.
Woodleigh Marx Hubbard (Bainbridge Island), produces bright and dynamic illustrations. She was born in Sharon, Connecticut, to an artist/space-philosopher father and a visionary mother. One of five children, she grew up surrounded by wild natural beauty in a town who's claim to fame was a rumored Abominable Snowman sighting. Needing more stimulation than this, Hubbard's career as an artist began and so far she has twenty published author-illustrated children's books, with one novel for adults in the works and another two children's books in the works. Woodleigh's works have been translated into several languages, including French, Japanese, and Korean.
Nikki McClure (Olympia), was one of the more prominent visual artists involved with Olympia-based record labels K and Kill Rock Stars, as well as the Riot Grrrl movement in the early nineties. Nikki's work still embodies the fiercely independent fire that fueled the passion and creativity of that time period. Now known for her beautifully intricate paper cuts, she cuts out her images from a single sheet of paper using an X-acto knife. Through texture, shapes, and the negative spaces created by the exacting cuts, McClure creates a bold language of poetry that translates the complexity of motherhood, nature, and human activism into a simple appealing picture. Through the virtues of hard labor and patience, which is inherent in her process as well as in the images themselves; subjects include daily housekeeping activities, mothers caring for their babies, farmers working the land, and reflection and relaxation. Her imagery also consists of humans who find the time to convene with the earth or look up to the sky.
Julie Paschkis (Seattle), grew up in Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia and now lives in Seattle, WA. She attended Germantown Friends School, Ringerike Folkehogskole in Norway, Cornell University, and the School for American Craftsmen at RIT. At an early age her parents encouraged her to read, draw and to play outside.and she still likes to do those things. She has written and/or illustrated more than 30 children's books and has had solo exhibitions of her paintings at Grover Thurston Gallery, Mia Gallery and Davidson Gallery in Seattle as well as shows in Portland at the Portland Community College Gallery and Alysia Duckler Gallery. In addition to children's books and paintings she creates original textiles, cards, and placemats.
