About Kelly Hatcher Mellon:
I am a chef and food educator, specializing in healthy alternatives to traditional favorites. This means favorite types of cooking as well as the dishes themselves. My creativity is sparked by people who want to feel better, eat better, be better.

Hands-on teaching techniques are a special interest of mine, for which I have designed and conducted classes. The ideal client is someone who values the benefits of customized cooking and nutrition for themselves, their family, or others in their lives, while needing to keep to a busy schedule.

It is exciting to be a culinary pioneer in an era of dawning awareness of the importance of whole foods. People are struggling to implement the barrage of information being "force-fed" to them by media, medical research and personal experiences.

In addition to ongoing, individual study, I've attended a number of food-related classes and seminars at such schools as Cabrillo College and the College of San Mateo, and am well versed in alternative and raw food preparation.

Past positions include Westside Bakery and Caf in Berkeley, Caf Cruz in Santa Cruz, Left Coast Catering in San Francisco, and Juniper Ridge Western Wild Goods in Oakland.

At the young age of twelve, I adopted a vegetarian lifestyle, which I kept to until the age of 24. Living with an Italian grandmother, Filipino father, and a mother for whom chicken wasn't meat, I soon realized that cooking for myself was the only way to achieve my meatless goal. Now I want to help feed regular households, much like the one I grew up in. I want to energize those bodies so that they can do the things that occupy the majority of their very busy lives.

Fogeaters Market & Kitchen:
My philosophy is very simple: Food is our fuel, and if the quality of our fuel is poor; we can only expect to have a less than ideal output of energy. I suspect that a dauntingly small percentage of people in our society reach their full potential through self-awareness and mindfulness about the foods they choose.

When a client said the word "clean" as she described a snapper dish I had prepared for her, I was delighted beyond my expectations!! Clean is a word that has become almost a motto for me: Clean, simple, energizing! It was great to get such a powerful response to a dish that embodies everything I believe in.

Thank you for your interest, I look forward to meeting and talking with you about our mutual interest in delicious, healthy eating.
