Triskelion Arts Presents... Split Bill March 2015
This program is designed to support emerging dance artists looking for a stepping-stone between the showcase format and full, evening-length self-production. At least two of the participating artists or companies will be selected to share a run as Triskelion Arts Presents headliners during the 2015-2016 Season.

The Space Between, a collaborative work between choreographer Lane Gifford and cellist/composer Sean Grissom, delves into questions regarding interaction and communication today in an expanding digital world. The counterpoint provided by a dynamic electronic soundscape and the solo cello provides a background dialogue to our physical convergences and diversions, exposing the constructive and destructive nature of communication in a technological landscape. The narrative based actions of the performers, intertwine with a diverse audio backdrop of morse code, radio transmissions, television, multimedia technologies and electromagnetic wave formations to explore contrasts in culture and conversation. Through movement, sound, spoken word, projections and live music, this dance theater work poses a rich contemporary debate.
Jenni Hong Dance's new work, Like you, is a series of small dances between five not-so-small women about their desires to control and also let loose. "Control freaks are often perfectionists defending themselves against their own inner vulnerabilities in the belief that if they are not in total control they risk exposing themselves once more to childhood angst. Such persons manipulate and pressure others to change so as to avoid having to change themselves" (thanks to Wikipedia). The work, Like you, toys with the control freak in us as well as the associating vulnerabilities that drive and break us, finding joy in being control and also liberating solace in the powerlessness and emptiness we feel at a total loss of control.
LAMINA, a new work from Aaron McGloin Dance, explores what it is to see "the animal from the inside." By taking moments and zooming in to view great detail we look at what signature experiences frame our viewpoints and how many of these moments prove themselves to be overwhelmingly universal. Through a series of vignettes that employ elements of theater, fashion, pop culture and contemporary dance, LAMINA presents a rich and eclectic cocktail with a dark and twisted tone.
no subject lineage / a dance for them is a dance theatre duet created and performed by registered domestic partners Lydia Mokdessi and Benjamin Wagner. The work deals with topics of ancestral, personal, and shared lineage and draws content from family histories and origin myths, artifacts of personal pasts, and evidence of the imprints the artists have made on each other over five years of romantic and domestic partnership. no subject linage / a dance for them is concerned with reinvention; to what extent are we the product of biology / history / past choices and to what extent are we able to exercise autonomy in performance? The work is centered around an ever-expanding shared vocabulary of dance phrases and monologues and a performative structure that allows for decision-making. Each performance is deeply influenced by audience and environment; the mechanics of performance-making are exposed and the real-time lineage of the dance is visible.
