CLARICE ASSAD

A native of Rio de Janeiro, Clarice Assad was born into one of Brazil's most famous musical families (she is the daughter of Sergio Assad, one of today's preeminent guitarists and composers), and has performed professionally since the age of seven. Formal piano studies began with Sheila Zagury in Brazil; she then studied with Natalie Fortin in Paris and had additional instruction in Jazz and Brazilian piano under the tutelage of Leandro Braga. Clarice continued her classical piano studies in the United States with Ed Bedner (Berklee School of Music) and then Bruce Berr at Roosevelt University in Chicago. Composition mentors are Ilya Levinson, Stacy Garrop, David Rakowski, Osvaldo Golijov, Michael Daugherty, Evan Chambers and Claude Baker. Clarice studied voice with composer and singer Susan Botti and Judy Blazer. Her music has been performed and recorded by orchestras, soloists, and chamber musicians,such as violinists Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and Iwao Furusawa, violoncellist Yo-Yo Ma, the guitarists Assad Brothers, the LA Guitar Quartet, the Turtle Island String Quartet, the Cavatina Duo, the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Louisville Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony and the New Century Chamber Orchestra, as well as conductors Marin Alsop (Baltimore Symphony) and Christoph Eschenbach (National Symphony Orchestra and Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.), Robert Bernhardt (Chattanooga/Louisville Pops Orchestra), Kazuyoshi Akiyama (Tokyo Symphony Orchestra), Carlos Miguel Prieto and Alondra de la Parra (Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas), among others."Her impassioned vocal work and her descent from one of Brazil's leading musical families have combined to enable her to offer an inimitable stylealready maturedthat's unlike anyone else's. KEITA OGAWA
Hailing originally from Nagasaki, Japan, Keita Ogawa is one of the most versatile and sought-after percussionists in New York City.
He started his music career on drum set at the age of 15.After performing regularly in Tokyo for several years, Keita decided to pursue his musical studies overseas. He was accepted into the prestigious Berklee College of Music in fall of 2005 where he studied with legendary musicians and educators Manuel "Egui" Castrillo, Jamey Haddad, Tito De Gracia, David Rosado, and Mark Walker. Seeking full immersion into the world of Brazilian percussion, Keita relocated to Rio de Janeiro for 3 months and studied with the some of the country's most respected musicians- Jorginho do Pandeiro, Celsinho Silva, Kiko Freitas, and Marcio Bahia among others.
Since his arrival in America, Keita has performed with some of the biggest names in modern music including Yo-yo-ma, Assad Brothers, Maria Schneider Orchestra, Snarky Puppy, Clarice Assad, Romero Lubambo, Chris Potter, Terri Lyne Carrington, Osvaldo Golijov, Alisa Weilerstein, Gustavo Dudamel, Danilo Perez, Dominick Farinacci, Cyro Baptista, Jamey Haddad, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Gretchen Parlato, Eric Harland, Tiger Okoshi, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra and more.
Keita can virtually play any percussion instrument and musical style with fluency and unparalleled musicality. Despite his youth, he has set an example for the next generation of world-class musicians. Keita's passion for crossing musical borders and uniting differences in cultures is a rare talent which he exhibits with a smile and an open heart.
