Fiddler, composer, producer and educator, Darol Anger is at home in a number of musical genres, some of which he helped to invent.
Exceptional among modern fiddlers for his versatility and depth, Anger has helped drive the evolution of the contemporary string band through his involvement with numerous pathbreaking ensembles such as his Republic Of Strings, the Turtle Island String Quartet, the David Grisman Quintet, Montreux, his Duo with Mike Marshall, and others. He has performed and taught all over the world with musicians such as Dr. Billy Taylor, Bela Fleck, Bill Evans, Edgar Meyer, Bill Frisell, David Grisman, Tony Rice, Tim O'Brien, The Anonymous 4, Marin Alsop and the Cabrillo Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony, Mark O'Connor, and Stephane Grappelli. Darol can be heard on NPR's "Car Talk" theme every week, along with Earl Scruggs, David Grisman and Tony Rice. He was also the violinist on the phenomenally popular Sim City computer games. In addition to performing all over the world, he has recorded and produced scores of important recordings since 1977, is a MacDowell and UCross Fellow, and has received numerous composers' residencies and grants. He has been a featured soloist on dozens of recordings and motion picture soundtracks. He is an Associate Professor at the Berklee School of music. Emy Phelps does not remember a time when she has not sung. Trained in theater arts, she participated in Ashland, Oregon's world-reknowned Shakespeare Festival programs including both Shakespeare and contemporary productions, and danced for 3 years in The Green Show, an ongoing Festival program. She was a founding member of Brian Ransom's The Ceramic Ensemble, which toured internationally from 19801987. As a member of that ensemble she did research on indigenous music in Peru. She is a musician of note in the Oregon region and has performed all around the Pacific Northwest since the late 80's. She has released one recording entitled "As It Should Be" on Sweet Mercy Records, and has participated in many recordings including Patrick Brayer, Chris Darrow, Norma Tenega, and Duke McVinnie. Past venues include the New Music America Festival in Philadelphia, North By Northwest, the Moab Folk Festival, Wintergrass, The Britt Festival, and Northwest Folk Life Festival in Seattle.
With Emy, Darol focuses his talents in service of the singer-songwriter's art. Emy Phelps is a standout artist in a large field, a prolific songwriter with a riveting voice which plumbs the deepest emotions. In combination, these 2 musicians bring out each other's special ability to convey deep emotional resonance and spark low-key fireworks.

Jenna Moynihan is an acclaimed fiddler at the forefront of a new generation of acoustic musicians and is a graduate of Berklee College of Music. Her unique style is rooted in the Scottish tradition, with influences from the sounds of Appalachia. With an expressive, lyrical touch, Jenna's fiddle playing explores beautiful the melodies and the driving grooves of the tradition. Jenna was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, and holds a degree in Performance with a minor in American Roots Music. During her time at Berklee, she was a student of Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, Matt Glaser, & Mark Simos. She received both the Fletcher Bright Award and the American Roots Music Award from the Berklee String Department; two honors given annually to an outstanding string player.

Rooted in traditional Scottish and Appalachian old-time music, Jenna Moynihan, fiddle, and Mairi Chaimbeul, Celtic harp, have developed a sound that celebrates and explores beautiful melodies. The pair met while studying at Berklee College of Music and are a product of the thriving local music scene. Both Moynihan and Chaimbeul have been heavily steeped in tradition, but their arrangements push boundaries with originality, breathing new life into old tunes.

Tristan is a 5-time Grand National Fiddle Champion and a pioneering cellist, synthesizing traditional folk influences with rhythmic vocabulary from jazz, rock and pop music, and leading a revolution among adventurous young cellists throughout the country. He has toured the world with bluegrass/nu-folk sensation Crooked Still and Darol Angers Republic of Strings, as well as Mike Marshall, Bruce Molsky and Cape Breton fiddle phenomenon Natalie MacMaster. Tristan is a member of The Bee Eaters, a trio playing chamber music-inspired Bluegrass music.

Janna Maria Fröhlich, as part of HeartSoulVoice ensemble, performs with her voice, harp, guitar and keyboard, along with Joy Grimes, fiddle. This evening will feature Janna alone with her angelic voice and folk harp. Janna is a board-certified music therapist, recently receiving her MA in expressive therapy at Lesley University, as well as a singer-songwriter and was the longtime soprano soloist until 2013 at First Church in Jamaica Plain, which houses the Eliot Street Soirée. Her background includes a Master of Fine Arts in Early Music from Sarah Lawrence College and many years performing Medieval and Renaissance music with several local groups. She is currently harpist with Cappella Clausura, a choral ensemble specializing in music by women composers of the last millenia. Janna's repertoire features an eclectic mix of original and improvisational songs, and Celtic or Celtic-inspired or Medieval music-inspired tunes. Tonight's show will include an improvised song inspired by input from the audience.
