THIS IS A PLAY THAT I WROTE IN THE FOURTH GRADE AND I'M STILL WAITING FOR MY PULITZER
A reading of a play by Ben Freeman
Doors at 6:30pm; Reading starts at 7:30pm

This is a tragedy that ends with a baby. This is a play about America. Kids have a knack for absorbing cultural information and regurgitating it in ways that reveal us to ourselves. When a child speaks we should listen.

When I was in the fourth grade I wrote a play - a 62-page tragedy called SHATTERED: A Drama in Two Acts. It is the story of a family in Revolutionary War-era Philadelphia, beleaguered by - among other things - tuberculosis, abject poverty, and irrepressible bursts of patriotism. On October 16th we're going to HAVE AN ART PARTY and READ IT OUT LOUD. We finally made it to Midtown!!!!!! *~*bLeSsEd*~*

My seventh grade band teacher had a wall hanging that read, "If you can walk, you can dance; if you can talk, you can sing." The heart of the instant  as of the infinite  is its utter presence, its impossibility of being preserved. Is our world one we want children to grow up in? How many instants make up a revolution? In making art  and taking kids seriously  we seek that which stands outside of time, even as we seek what makes it real to us. This project has been, over the years, a kind of artistic and spiritual barometer for me. It is an ecstatic articulation of the principles I hold deeply, and it's just fucking fun. I so hope you'll join us on October 16th - it's going to be a blast!! Please bring your friends and every bit of your self :-)
