AFFGS Book/Discussion Group- October Meeting
Race, Racism & Adoption Discussion Group
In light of recent events in Ferguson, the book group of Adoptive Friends & Families of Greater Seattle ("AFFGS") is modifying its focus to address racial equality and racial justice. We'll be reading short articles addressing race in the United States, discussing them, and creating steps we can take to make our local community and country a more safe and fair place for everyone.
For the next year or so, we'll be covering topics such as: (1) what it feels like to be White In America, including "White Privilege" what this means and does not mean; (2) what if feels like to be Black. Asian, Bi-Racial, Multi-Racial and/or Hispanic in America; (3) racial and ethnic identity formation of adoptees, especially when in transracial families; and (4) what steps we can take to promote racial equality and justice.
