Mantra Workshop, A COLLECTIVE CHANTING EXPERIENCE with Nadaka & Gopika

This workshop introduces the student to the chanting of Vedic mantras and the beautiful musical language of India with an approach that seeks to simplify and make comprehensible this spellbinding art. Participants explore through collective singing the power of sound and its purifying influence on our being and environment.
We offer a simple way for all, even those with no prior experience, to learn these mantras so they can become an integral part of your spiritual practice; In Meditation, in Hatha Yoga, in your daily life.
In Sanskrit, Nada is the origin of sound and Ka is the one who carries it within. Nadaka was born in Quebec, and learned to play the guitar at an early age. At 16, his quest for life's deeper sense led him on a pilgrimage along that wondrous road which infallibly brought him to India, which he immediately adopted as his country. Dedicated to the ideals of India's great revolutionary yogi, Sri Aurobindo, he has been living in the international settlement of Auroville, in South India, since 1974. His love of Indian culture and passion for Indian music led him to study a number of traditional music styles, both on Indian stringed instruments and vocally.
Trained from an early age in the vibration of sounds and mantras and their effect on the human being and the environment Gopika discovered a spiritual dimension in her personal search. She studied Vedic chanting for four years (Sacred chants of the ancient texts known as the Vedas) at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai. She lived in Pondicherry, India and taught Art, Photography and Vedic chanting at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and the international community of Auroville, India, for several years. She performs in concerts and conducts workshops in chanting and well-being all over the world. Currently she is making immersive art installations which are meditative in nature using paper, light, sound and projection as her medium.
Vedic Mantras are pure sounds that were heard by the Rishis in ancient times. Above and beyond religion, we sing these mantras as an invocation to our highest inner guide. They carry a powerful energy passed down over millenniums as seeds of the divine consciousness. An eternal bridge from the past to the future, Sound, Music and Mantras remain as a timeless expression of our aspiration to transcend and experience Oneness with all.
