37 Days (BBC Mini-Series) with "Songs of World War I" Performance
To commemorate the start of World War I, the BBC has made this mini-series, 37 DAYS (2014, BBC Worldwide, 162 min. Dir. Justin Hardy) available in the U.S. in theatres. Join us for this exclusive screening.

This terrific three-part miniseries explores the various political, military and especially diplomatic machinations that took place in the title time between the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and Germany's declaration of war. Ian McDiarmid (as Foreign Secretary Edward Grey), Tim Piggot- Smith (Prime Minister Herbert Henry Asquith) and Sinead Cusack (Asquith's wife Margot) lead a typically all-star British cast.

Join us at 3:00 PM in the lobby with costumed WWI re-enactors and original artifacts on display, followed by a performance of popular music of the era.

On August 3, the "Songs of War," a program featuring live performances of the music of the war, including commercial hits as well as some songs invented and sung by the soldiers themselves, will be presented. The program will also include a few selections of poetry from the war and a "Parade of Nations", with re-enactors presenting the armies of the major combatants, with a narrative of the part they played and the price they paid. Many of the songs will be presented in the manner of the time, as sing alongs, and the audience will be invited to join in. A selection of notable local performers have volunteered their time for this program, including Dean Mora, Kayre Morrison, Ginger Pauley, Sheila Murphy-Nelson, Mary Stanford, Kate Friedricks and Tuba Hetherington. Walter Nelson will narrate.

This program is free to the public - first come, first served - with a suggested donation of $8 to help cover presentation expenses.
