Arts Gumbo- Louisiana Creole Celebration
Arts Gumbo is a ten-year-old performing arts series that serves up a mixture of diverse cultures, different art forms, distinctive cuisine, unique ideas and common issues at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center (3515 S. Alaska St) in Columbia City.

Starting on September 27th, Arts Gumbo partners with the Northwest Zydeco Music and Dance Association for a Louisiana Creole Celebration. At 5 pm BAYOU BLAST, a group of Bay area and local musicians, will perform French Creole and Zydeco tunes from the Bayou. The event will be emceed by storyteller Georgia McDade and Mary Lee Lykes, renowned local personality of Lykes to Dance.  At 6 pm, participants can join in a MARDI GRAS parade, replete with beads, music and more as we march to the banquet room where King Creole Restaurant will be serving outrageous samples of gumbo at 6:30pm. Afterwards, they will demonstrate how to make gumbo for participants who want to learn the art of Creole gumbo. At 7:30 pm, a variety of Louisiana cultural experiences will be offered such as a Rub board demonstration, face painting, an All About Accordions workshop and Zydeco dancing.

Tickets for Art Gumbos Louisiana Creole Celebration are:  $10 for general, $7 for students and seniors, $5 for children ages 8-18 (7 and under are free) and $25 for families of up to 4 people.  Tickets are available online atwww.brownpapertickets.com/producer/1784 or at the door.
