Nora and I
Have you ever wanted to walk out of your life? Responding to Ibsen's iconic character from "A Doll's House", "Nora and I" explores the relationship between acting and autobiography and the roles that we play in our lives, as triggered by Nora's story. At the end of Ibsen's play, Nora controversially leaves the stage and her family to face an unknown future, walking away from the roles into which she has been cast by tradition and by virtue of her gender. "Nora and I" examines the spaces between playing a role and expressions of identity by the actress playing Nora and contemporary women of different generations. Referencing the play, its wildly varied production-history and the voices of local women, Marianne Sharp's multimedia production, co-starring Doug Hammett, directed by Platform4's Catherine Church, opens a new door on Ibsen's classic.
