Shared History: 2014 Historical House Tour

A limited number of "Day of Event" tickets will be available on Saturday (9/13/2014) at 10am at the Old Stone Church EDUCATION BUILDING, 500 E. Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ. Tickets will be $40 while supplies last.

The Historical Society of Rockland County has joined the Upper Saddle River Historical Society and the USR Historic Preservation Commission to present "Shared History: A Historic Homes Tour."

When: Saturday, September 13, 10 am-4 pm

Where: Bergen County (Montvale, Upper Saddle River & Saddle River) and Rockland County (Tallman, Airmont & Chestnut Ridge)

Price: $35 in advance; $40 on the day of the tour.

Step back in time to two hundred years ago when the Rev. Stephen Goetschius left his home in New Paltz, New York, to move to the Saddle River Valley to serve the Old Stone Church as minister. The families who worshiped here came from the Ramapo Township area of Rockland County and northern Bergen County, and many were related. The Rev. Goetschius, who was in his sixties, liked to preach in Dutch and he did so until 1835, when he retired at age 80.

The sites on the tour will represent many of the names of those early families who attended the Old Stone Church: Eckerson, Hopper, Zabriskie, Van Riper, Snider, DeBaun, Terhune, Osborn, Conklin, Yeomans and Post. The tour will include the restored Old Stone Church.

As a courtesy to the homeowners, please wear soft-soled shoes and refrain from photography, gum chewing, eating or drinking while on the tour.

Proceeds from the tour will benefit the two historical societies. Tickets are limited. All participants will pick up their tickets at the Old Stone Church Educational Building, 500 East Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458, on the day of the house tour.
