Small Business Lunch at Halls

Each day an average of six vessels sail into our state's harbors, carrying cargo worth more than $150 million. International trade through South Carolina ports facilitates 270,000 jobs across the state in the maritime, transportation, distribution and manufacturing industries while providing an overall economic impact of $45 billion each year.
In 2013 the Port of Charleston handled 1839 cargo ships and less than 100 cruise ships. Charleston ranks as the nation's eighth largest in dollar value of international shipments, with cargo valued at more than$ 63.6 billion annually while receiving no direct taxpayer subsidy.
Jim Newsome became President and CEO of the South Carolina State Ports Authority in 2009 and is only the fifth leader in the history of the organization. He was previously President of Hapag-Lloyd (America), Inc., based in Piscataway, NJ, which is part of the world's fifth-largest ocean shipping company.
Mr. Newsome received a bachelor's BS in Transportation and Logistics in 1976 and an MBA in Transportation and Logistics in 1977 from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Mr. Newsome currently serves on the Board of Governors of the College of Charleston School of Business, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, MUSC Children's Hospital Fund Advisory Board and the South Carolina State University Transportation Center Board of Directors.
Each month, Small Business Lunch at Halls features a distinguished speaker from the business, civic or political arenas upstairs at Halls Chophouse with an imaginative three-course meal prepared by Executive Chef Matthew Niessner.
Tickets are $29 per person for the luncheon and parking. Doors open at 11:30 AM and lunch is served promptly at noon. Limited seating of 70 participants provides an intimate experience with each speaker.
Halls Chophouse is located at 434 King Street in downtown Charleston. Parking, validated at the event, is available at the Visitors Center Garage on Ann Street between King and Meeting Streets.
