Dust in the Bottomland: Appalachia is Now!
TENTH INTERVENTION Presents: Dust in the Bottomland: Appalachia is Now!, an evening of contemporary classical music centered around an original two-person music drama "Dust in the Bottomland" that paints a complex and moving portrait of modern Appalachia.
Appalachia is probably the most misunderstood region of the United States. The Appalachian has become such a conveniently simple character even a mainstay of American mythology that it discourages further investigation.
The TENTH INTERVENTION Ensemble presents an evening of contemporary classical music, centered around an original two-person music-drama written by Nate May that paints a complex and moving portrait of modern Appalachia. The work features bass vocalist Andrew Munn, who also works as a community organizer in West Virginia.
The program opens with a work for two violins and pre-recorded tape from Eve Beglarian's "Well Spent", as well as new string quartet by Dorian Wallace, titled "Little River Grace". Also on the program is the New York Premiere of "Wings of Stone", a string quartet by Appalachian composer Scott Robbins. The quartet was selected from a Call for Scores that TENTH INTERVENTION held in March 2014.

Performing contemporary work is central to the mission of The TENTH INTERVENTION Ensemble. Our contemporary classical concerts are thoughtfully curated and mostly feature works by living composers. With each performance we strive to give audiences an experience through which they can experience chamber music and classical music in a new way.
