World Voices & Strings

This will be a collaborative evening of soulful African finger-style blues, Balkan polyphonic singing, Indian slide guitar, World percussion and more.

Featuring guitarist, composer, and vocalist Dave Cipriani http://davecipriani.com/; world music percussionist and Topanga local Jamie Papish https://jamiepapishmusic.com/ ; and the singing group Mezeina, co-founded by Topanga-raised Justine Kragen

About Dave Cipriani
Dave has decades of experience as a professional musician, composer & band leader, working with a variety of famous teachers, musical styles and traditions. Dave's diverse background include studies with jazz great Charlie Byrd, classical guitarist Christopher Parkening, sitar master Jai Kishor, and Indian Slide guitar pioneer Pandit Barun Kumar Pal, a senior disciple of Ravi Shankar. Dave holds an MFA in North Indian Music at California Institute of the Arts, which included studies with Balkan/classical/flamenco guitarist Miroslav Tadic, Indian masters Ustad Aashish Khan and Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, and classical guitarist Stuart Fox.
He has self-produced 4 CDs and has received awards from the Maryland State Arts Council and the Baltimore Office of Promotions and the Arts.

About Mezeina (meh-zeh-chee-nah)
a Los Angeles-based group made up of 4 woman, each with years of performance, teaching, composing and arranging experience, who are stretching the boundaries of folk music from Eastern Europe and beyond.
Particularly drawn to the mesmerizing rhythms and melodies of Balkan music, they embrace folk music as a blend of new and old traditions: as a living, breathing art form that connects us all.

About Jamie Papish
A veteran percussionist, recording artist, composer, arranger and teacher of 25 years, Jamie specializes in a variety of world & sacred music and percussion styles ranging from Middle Eastern, Turkish, Persian, Sephardic, Yemenite, Ashkenazi Armenian, Balkan and Kirtan. He has toured the world with the award winning Yuval Ron Ensemble and continues to be a in-demand performer.
