The BellRays are an original, independent, punk, rock and soul band from Riverside, California. Beginning in 1990 we created a band and music based on what we love. We have continued that tradition for the past 30 years incorporating our influences into a simple formula to create a unique and exciting sound. Emotion + energy = excitement. Which is why we say Blues is the teacher Punk is the Preacher.
We've heard ourselves described by some variation of Tina Turner fronting AC/DC or Motorhead meets Aretha Franklin which comes with an expectation to be that every time. We are expected to be something that does not exist. We stand apart and reactions like not punk enough, not rock enough, and THATS not soul only fuel us more. We revel in our fearlessness to share what's in our heads and hearts whether its understood or not. The most important thing is that we believe what we write and play. Our songwriting comes from a place deep and wide and in HEAVY STEADY GO! we realized that what we had created came from the impact point of this crater. Our latest album HEAVY STEADY GO! is our CalJam, a festival in album form of contrasts, mashups and collaborations that just fucking rocks! We pay homage to Tom Petty, Bon Scott, Fleetwood Mac, Howlin Wolf, Cheap Trick, Betty Davis, and dozens of others that inspired these songs.
The BellRays current lineup includes the return of Craig Waters (Cody Chestnut, Andre Williams, the Countdowns) on drums and newbie Nico Miles (Nico Miles) on bass. The two contributed on HEAVY STEADY GO! which will be released August 30th 2024.
