Downtown Nyack - Walking through History
Join in for a two hour guided walk through Nyack's layered history. The tour will explore
-- Sites connected with indigenous people and early European settlers
-- The John Green House during an active Saturday work party with talk by restorers
-- Two pre-1850 buildings still in use today
-- See the interior of the 1854 Depew House which houses the museum of the Historical Society of the Nyacks
-- Locations that reflect Nyack's commercial and population growth after 1850
-- The 1903 original rooms of the Carnegie Library and the WPA-era Post Office with original murals
-- Additional pre-1920 structures along the route.
Along the way, we will point out buildings and streetscapes which Edward Hopper experienced as a youth and which are reflected in his mature works.
Lee Hoffman, the tour guide, is a long-time Nyack resident with a lifelong interest in local history. He loves the casual way a Walking Tour works and the interesting conversations that arise.
MEETING PLACE AND ROUTE -- The tour will meet at Memorial Park at the intersection of Piermont Avenue and Hudson Avenue. The route is a little more than 1/2 mile and there is one short uphill section. The tour will end at the Library parking lot behind the library.
LIMITED TICKETS -- This tour is limited to 20 people
