Laurie, a 29-year-old morgue janitor, dies suddenly in a house fire for which she's responsible, only to arrive at the Multi-Purpose Room: a liminal space between life and afterlife. There she meets her orientation leaders - her grandma, her fiancé's mother, and an old high school classmate - who assign her three tasks to complete if she hopes to move on ... to whatever comes next.

LAURIE: GRANDMA HOW CAN I CALM DOWN WHEN IM 29 YEARS OLD AND DEAD FROM A HOUSE FIRE OF ALL THINGS? IM TOO YOUNG, I NEVER ACHIEVED ANYTHING. I DIED A JANITOR AT A MORGUE. I NEVER TURNED MYSELF AROUND. MOM, DAD, WHAT ABOUT PAUL?
GRANDMA: Wait, whos Paul again?
LAURIE: MY FIANCE!
(GRANDMA re-checks LAURIEs file.)
GRANDMA: Oh goodness. There he is.
